At CeBIT 2003 the dominance of handheld computers on the Pocket PC platform by the number of species was evident. Most manufacturers offer solutions based on this particular OS, since the only constraint to growth in PDA market - the price - no longer scares potential buyers. Handhelds built on software from Microsoft, much cheaper. In a series of articles we will try to tell you about all the exciting updates that we have seen in the exhibition.
DOTel DOT 400 (Wincent)
The next generation of computers from the company DOTel. - DOT Series 400 - will run on Windows CE. NET version 4.1 and then version 4.2. The latter may become the basis Platforms Pocket PC 2003. And yet: the owners Wincent DOT 320, most likely, will also be able to flash their PDAs under the new OS 4.2. However, this information is not completely accurate.
It is assumed that the range of 400 will consist of three models: DOT 400 S - as a base, DOT 400 W - with built-in WLAN modules, and yet unnamed model with GSM / GPRS module. No details of the latest model has not yet informs. It is known that the S variant is not built-in antenna. Model W is slightly heavier S: 205 grams against 180.
With regard to the characteristics of the new DOT 400, then the processor will run twice as fast compared with the "pebble" the former model - 400 MHz instead of 206. RAM memory to increase from 32 MB to 64. But from now on to reflash ROM can be between 64 MB and above. That is, in principle, the new model involves the installation of ROM and large volumes. Designers managed to build the Compact Flash slot on the top lid along with an infrared port, stereo output and the antenna.
And here is the slot MMC / SD. DOT 400 is made with an eye both on the periphery of the old and new promising device. How current will have a problem with device drivers under Windows CE. NET is not yet clear. If the version of CE. NET 4.2 does become PPC 2003, it is likely this issue will eventually be withdrawn.

Mitac Mio 338 plus
MiTAC Mio 338 plus - it's easy restyling of 338 models sold in Russia under the brand name Rover PC P3.The new model has not crossed the threshold of its price category (lowest). 338 Plus will find the new 400 MHz processor instead of the old 200 MHz. Grow well and the amount of ROM: 32 to 64 MB. All other features remain the same, including the form factor. It is interesting that (according MiTAC) twofold increase in processor speed will not affect the working time - to declare all the same 8:00 autonomy.
Mitac Mio 339
But it is quite another matter. MiTAC Mio 339 with time should occupy an intermediate position between the 3xx and 5xx series. However, the "iron" features should remain similar to 338 plus. The same 400 MHz XScale, the same screen. RAM will be 64 Mb, part of which will have to take the needs of the operating system and localization.
The main difference Mitac Mio 339 of 338 - a built-in 300K-pixel camera. Snapshot of 640 by 480 pixels saved in BMP or JPEG-files of approximately 30 kb. The lens closes a sliding lid. At the port of synchronization can be put on a special flash.
